Senior Technical Author
We are seeking a Senior Technical Author to join our Technical Publications team, responsible for delivering documentation and content across our product portfolio within an established knowledge base
This is not a conventional writing role — it is an opportunity to lead the transformation of how we create, manage, and deliver technical content, with AI-native workflows at the centre of that change.
The successful candidate is passionate about technical writing for software and brings genuine, hands-on experience with AI tools — not just awareness of them. They understand how large language models work in practice, can design and evaluate AI-assisted content workflows, and critically review AI-generated output before it reaches customers. They are an excellent communicator who can turn complex technical content into clear, accessible documentation, and a systems thinker who sees documentation as a product with users, feedback loops, and room for continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will have experience in working closely with a Development / Product team to produce content that is easily understood. The role will involve working with other SMEs with a wealth of knowledge on the products and customers, to gather technical details for the content and create new and innovative ideas for presenting the information.
This role involves hybrid working. Candidates within travelling distance of our Cambridge or Nottingham offices are preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
Produce clear, concise, and consistent documentation — written content, annotated screenshots, and diagrams — that conforms to the company style guide and is optimised for the reader’s experience.
Engage with stakeholders across the business to understand documentation requirements, identify information gaps, and translate technical detail into user-facing content.
Design and use AI-assisted workflows (using tools such as Claude, Copilot, and others) to accelerate content creation, editing, and standardisation — while maintaining full editorial accountability for published output.
Produce high-quality draft content and follow the team's authoring process to progress that content through review stages to eventual publication.
Take customer feedback to improve documentation and the end-user experience.
Proofread and edit draft documentation created by others for grammar, spelling, punctuation, tone, and adherence to the company's style guide — including critically reviewing AI-generated content for accuracy and hallucinations before publication.
Own and operate the quality-assurance process for documentation, ensuring subject matter experts review existing articles periodically and that AI-flagged staleness is acted on in a timely way.
Lead by example, setting the highest authoring standards and acting as the team’s primary reference point for AI tool use, prompt design, and responsible AI guidelines.
Process, Tooling and AI Leadership
Identify improvements to team processes and authoring practices, and lead implementation — with a particular focus on automation opportunities within the documentation pipeline.
Proactively identify and pilot opportunities to apply AI to documentation processes: automated content generation and summarisation, metadata tagging, content classification, and intelligent search and retrieval.
Establish and maintain guidelines for responsible and effective use of AI in documentation workflows
Administer the team's tools and systems including Document360, Grammarly, and DevOps. Serve as the team expert on these tools and systems (when questions arise from within the team, from other teams, or from management). Represent the team in interactions with those tools' representatives. Also responsible for our team's interaction with adjacent systems such as Google search.
Support other members of the Technical Publications team with processes, practices, and tools, and represent the team in cross-functional projects.
Proactively identify the need for strategic projects such as tool upgrades and then plan and run the projects.
Represent the team in other people's projects that involve the Technical Publication's team.

Demonstrated, hands-on experience using AI tools (such as Claude, Copilot, or ChatGPT) to support content creation, editing, or knowledge management — in a professional context, not just personal experimentation.
Practical understanding of how large language models work: prompting strategies, strengths, limitations, and hallucination risks.
Ability to write, test, and iterate prompts that generate high-quality, on-spec technical content, and to critically review the output for accuracy and style guide adherence before publication.
Actively keep pace with developments in AI tooling relevant to technical writing, and comfortable running small pilots to evaluate new capabilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, i.e., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Experience of working with a Development or Product team operating according to the Agile framework.
Experience of using professional authoring tools or CMSs.

Experience implementing AI into documentation pipelines or content workflows
An innate curiosity about subjects and a willingness to ask colleagues any necessary questions.

Structured and methodical approach to all areas of work.
Works in a professional and confident manner.
Able to work independently as well as work as part of a team.
